Cool Tools

It can be difficult to generate exercises for students so they can practice
new skills. There are a few sites, however, that help you create cloze
activities, customized dictionaries, and puzzles.

Puzzlemaker is a puzzle generation tool. Create and print 11 different
customized puzzles such as word search and crossword puzzles. Develop your own word list and then this site will create a puzzle for you. You can also
add graphics by selecting from hundreds of pieces of clip art.

Discovery School's Instant Glossary Builder lets you create a custom
glossary from any list of vocabulary words. That means you can give students
a list of the most helpful, relevant terms for any project or assignment -
in any subject area. Just list the words and then select the information you
want to include in the glossary. Some of the optional selections are
definitions, examples, synonyms, and more.

Choose from several vocabulary worksheet templates in this
"Create a Worksheet" area and create a worksheet in less than five minutes. Available templates include fill in the blank (cloze) with and without word banks, ordering sentences, and matching.

Quia, or Quintessential Instructional Archive, is an e-learning website that provides educators with access to more than 500,000 online games and quizzes in hundreds of subject areas, all created by teachers around the world.

Although there is a directory of thousands of online games and quizzes in
more than 40 subject areas, most are too difficult for LVA students. Of
interest, though, are Quia's Activity Editor templates. You can create 13
types of games, including flash cards, matching games, concentration
(memory) games, word search puzzles, hangman, and challenge boards. The
activities reside on the Quia website where anyone with a Web browser can
play them. Visit the site at http://www.quia.com.
