Mission
Statement
Literacy
Volunteers Monmouth County, an accredited affiliate
of ProLiteracy America, believes that the ability to
read and write is critical to personal freedom and
the maintenance of a democratic society. The mission
of LVMC therefore, is to promote increased literacy
for adults in Monmouth County, through the effective
use of volunteers and collaboration with
individuals, groups and organizations desiring to
foster increased literacy.
As
such, LVMC is committed to:
-
Enabling English speaking adults, lacking
basic literacy skills, to achieve their potential
through free, one-to-one or small group learner
centered instruction.
-
Assisting non-English speaking adults to learn
our language and culture, so they can become
useful and productive members of our society.
-
Training, supervising and supporting LVMC
volunteer tutors and learners.
-
Strengthening and improving LVMC's capacity to
provide literacy instruction and service to the
community.
